Opium worth Rs. 60 lakh seized

The Narcotics Squad of Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday nabbed a man along with contraband opium worth Rs. 60 lakh near the Mysore Bank Circle here.

The police said K. Hemaram (25) of Chokadikala of Bhoopalghad in Jodhpur district in Rajasthan, used to supply the narcotic to regulars in the vicinity of Avenue Road.

“He arrived here on the Ajmer-Mysore train. We arrested him on a tip-off when he was waiting for a customer,” a police official said.

Documents gutted

Documents, furniture and stationery materials were gutted when a fire broke out at the Government Primary School at Kalkere near Banasawadi in the early hours of Wednesday.

Local residents noticed thick smoke around 4 a.m. and called the Fire Department.

A short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire.
