What do you think is the first mistake the State government made in this case?

The statement of the Police Commissioner, the Chief Minister and Home Minister that it appears to be suicide even before a post mortem was concluded was extremely unfortunate and caused enormous confusion. They should have kept silent and not declared till they have completed a thorough investigation.

What do you think should be done now?

The officer had a tempestuous career and was known for taking on several powerful lobbies. Adding to that, since the government has already declared it as a suicide and the family is demanding a CBI probe, only an independent investigating agency like the CBI can conduct an impartial and fair investigation to bring out the truth. If they have nothing to hide, there is no reason for the state government to resist a CBI probe. This case clearly demands such an investigation.

Do you think three days down the line a good investigation can be started? Will time lost not hamper investigation?

Not at all. The key is not the post mortem alone, but forensic medical expert views and details of scene of crime and call records. This will hold the key on whether it was a suicide or not in the first place. Several possibilities and angles arise from a crime scene and circumstances. Even IF it is suicide it is important to know the reasons in such a case and those who may have caused pressure on him can be booked for abettment to suicide.
