Online registration for PWD contractors

November 20, 2014 06:13 pm | Updated 06:13 pm IST - Bengaluru:

In a first for the country, Karnataka’s Public Works Department has set up a portal for online registration of contractors and renewals in a bid to introduce transparency and speed up works. Each contractor will be issued a smart card instead of a passbook, with bio-metric data, photograph and other details, which will be linked to the portal.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the portal here on Thursday, Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said this will be a “foolproof and transparent” mechanism to ensure that all works allotted to a contractor and the time-frame is online and can be monitored.

Smart cards will be issued to Class I and Class II contractors in the first phase and will be extended to others soon.
