A worker died and two others sustained burns when a boiler exploded in the herbal medicine division of a factory at Jigani Industrial Area in Anekal taluk on Saturday morning.

The Bannerghatta police said the “poorly maintained” boiler exploded at Vidya Herbs Private Ltd. around 9.30 a.m. as “it could not withstand the pressure”.

The blast damaged the structure too.

The dead man is Raghukumar (30), a Chitradurga native. The injured — Kurrappa (40) and T. Ahmed (30) — were admitted to Y.K. Narayana Hospital near Anekal in a critical state.

The massive explosion ripped apart the machinery, hurling metal parts several metres away, the police said.

The company is into research and production of high-end herbal products for treating lifestyle aliments since 2000.

The Anekal police have registered a case of negligence.
