A 23-year-old software engineer was run over by a truck late on Tuesday night while returning from a dinner party.
The victim has been identified as Mouli Prashant Jayabalan, a Wipro employee. He was accompanied by a friend Prasanna Hegade (24) who was the pillion rider.
After the dinner party, Jayabalan and Prasanna were on their way home in a bike when at around 10.50 p.m., they were hit by a lorry on Kasavanahalli Road coming from the same direction.
The victims were immediately shifted to Apollo and then to Sparsh Hospital. The doctors declared Jayabalan as brought dead. Prasanna sustained injuries but is out of danger.
The lorry driver escaped but the lorry was detained and shifted to the police station. The body of Jayabalan will be shifted to Victoria hospital and a case will be registered.
