The roof and a portion of the decades old government lower primary school building in Karthenahalli in K.R. Pet collapsed on Saturday owing to heavy rain.

However, there was no loss of life as Dasara holidays have been declared for students.

Sources in the Education Department said that the department was contemplating renovating the building in the coming days as it had developed minor cracks in a few places. However, the portions of the building came down crashing on Saturday morning owing to incessant rain. “We will make alternative arrangements for students and demolish the collapsed portions of the building,” a senior officer said. According to him, the new building will come up at the same place within a few months.

Education Officer S.T. Javare Gowda and others visited the spot. Head master Mahesh has filed the complaint.
