Waking up to the problem that waste disposal issue, the bane of Bengaluru, could turn a menace in villages too if there is no early intervention, the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department has decided to implement ‘Grameena Gaurava’ project across the State.

RDPR Minister H.K. Patil told presspersons here on Friday that the project involves processing waste through a biodegradation method which would both clear the waste and also yield rich compost. The project, being implemented in some villages in Gadag and Koppal districts, would be implemented in all districts.

The Minister said the Karnataka government had submitted a Rs. 45,000-crore proposal to the Centre to provide drinking water to all villages in the State. He said the project would require 100 tmcft of water and could be implemented in three to four years. He hoped that both the State and the Centre would pitch in with the project.
