Now, special patrolling on weekends

November 27, 2014 01:24 am | Updated 01:24 am IST - Bengaluru:

Starting this Friday, Bangalore Police will intensify night patrolling during the weekends to prevent anti-social activities.

The decision to step up patrolling comes after harassment of five women by a group of men near a popular ice-cream parlour on M.G. Road last week.

City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi said the department was considering including women police officials in the patrolling teams so that women citizens could easily approach them. However, this is yet to be discussed. Patrolling in various parts of the city would mean increased surveillance to prevent anti-social activities.

Mr. Reddi said incidents such as the one in front of the ice-cream parlour occur becausesome people consider eve-teasing and harassing women as “fun.”
