The kiosk is on Nagashettyhalli main road

A gang of men, armed with a gas cutter, couldn’t resist targeting an ATM kiosk which neither had security guard nor CCTV cameras.

Their instinct paid off and they got away with a cool Rs. 20 lakh in Sanjaynagar here on Saturday.

The Canara Bank kiosk is on the busy Nagashettyhalli main road — a mere 100 m from the bus stand — and the heist was discovered by some customers around 7.30 p.m. when they went to withdraw money.

The police said that no one apparently noticed the brazen theft.

They suspected that the gang would have observed the ATM for a few days before striking.

Their work was so professional, the police said, they left no clues.

“They knew the ATM does not have security guards and the CCTV had not been working for the past 15 days… there was no initiative by the bank to repair it. We suspect an inside job,” the police said.

H.R. Srinivas, regional manager of the private firm contracted to load cash in the ATM, filed a complaint with the Sanjaynagar police.
