The use of plastic, and the vending of tea and coffee has been banned in Cubbon Park.

A fine of Rs. 100 would be imposed on violators, according to announcements put up by the Horticulture Department around the park.

Sources in the department said the ban was imposed following requests by walkers, who aired their views at a tree plantation programme recently.

“Walkers had been complaining that the tea and coffee vendors were causing inconvenience to the park regulars. Besides, the plastic cups in which tea and coffee were being served also resulted in littering,” a source said.

The department also hoped that the newly installed boards would encourage civic responsibility.
