The State government on Wednesday told the Karnataka High Court that it has no intention to close down the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF).
Additional Advocate-General Sajan Poovayya made this submission before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice B.V. Nagarathna during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that had apprehended the government was moving to scrap the BMTF.
The government has not issued any order nor does it intend to close or abolish the BMTF, Mr. Poovayya submitted to the court.
The petition, filed by D. Devaraj and others, alleged the government was attempting to sabotage the BMTF after it booked cases against senior government officials as well as some Cabinet Ministers.
The Bench disposed of the petition after recording the government’s submissions.
Meanwhile, the Bench asked the government to file its objections on another PIL, filed by H. Pramod and others, which complained that government had clipped BMTF’s wings through a notification issued on February 2, 2013 curtailing certain powers of the task force.
