At a time when incidence of violence against women and children is being reported frequently from across Karnataka, Nirbhaya, a 10-minute documentary produced by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) will hit the screens in the next two days.
Almost all actors of the Kannada film industry have voiced their concern and offered solutions to stop rape and sexual harassment of women and children in this documentary directed by S.K. Bhagawan (of the Dore-Bhagawan fame).
“It is a 10-minute documentary. We have a five-minute and two-minute version of the original also for the convenience of exhibitors. Nirbhaya has the caption ‘ Sidideli, Bhaya Bidi’ . Nirbhaya will hit the screens soon,” Mr. Bhagawan told The Hindu .
Nearly 30 actors including Shivarajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, Upendra, Yash, Amulya and Radhika Pandit have extended support to this documentary project undertaken with an aim to create awareness among public on the need to stop gender violence. It has sound bites from all actors on the need to stop sexual violence against women and children in society.
According to sources in the KFCC, all the television channels in the State have agreed to air the documentary as a part of their “social responsibility”.
“Following protests against frequent instances of rape in Bengaluru, the film industry had planned to take out a rally to pressure the government to act firmly against the perpetrators of the crime. However, the idea was given up considering the fact that after the rally the issue will be forgotten, and so KFCC decided to produce a documentary to create awareness,” Mr. Bhagawan explained.
Noted cinematographer B.S. Basavaraj and music composer V. Manohar have pitched in to make the project successful.
