Nine Air India flights originating from Bangalore International Airport were cancelled on Thursday as the strike by the members of Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) of the erstwhile Indian Airlines seeking pay parity entered its second day.
Similarly, nine flights scheduled to fly into BIA from various destinations across the country were also cancelled.
Flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad and Chennai were among those that were cancelled.
“Though nine flights from Bangalore were cancelled, the passengers were not put to inconvenience as they were accommodated on other flights,” an Air India spokesperson said on Thursday.
While some passengers were accommodated in the clubbed flights of the beleaguered airline, 100 were accommodated in private airlines.
The Air India Express was diverted from Chennai to Bangalore to take passengers to Mumbai.
According to the spokesperson, additional staff has been deployed at customer service centres and call centres to provide information to passengers. Senior officials monitored the situation at the airport. “No passenger was inconvenienced,” he added.
Hike in price
Meanwhile, private airlines, in a bid to cash in on the cancelled flights, have upped their ticket prices.
According to an industry insider, ticket costs to some sectors, including Mumbai and Delhi, have jumped by 20 to 30 per cent over the last two days.
A similar situation occurred when the Jet Airways staff went on strike following retrenchment in 2009, the source said.
