NIMHANS to Kengeri in 20 minutes

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

A 27-year-old brain dead painter from Chamarajpet, who had suffered a serious head injury after a fall and was admitted to NIMHANS on April 17, has been shifted to BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri for organ retrieval and transplantation.

The body was shifted from NIMHANS to Kengeri in 20 minutes with the help of the traffic police, who created a green corridor. According to the police, it usually takes at least 45 minutes to cover this stretch.

NIMHANS Director P. Satishchandra said the body was shifted to BGS as NIMHANS was not recognised as an organ retrieval centre. “We specialise only in neurosurgeries. We do not have the facility for organ retrieval,” he said.

The organ retrieval will take place on Wednesday.
