A newlywed couple committed suicide by taking poison in their home at Noor Nagar in Kothanur on Friday night.
Heena Sirdoz (21) and Afroz Baig (23), cousins who married just two months ago, lived in an extended family. Afroz was a cloth merchant and it was an arranged marriage.
On Friday night, Afroz’s elder brother, Tabrez, knocked on their door but there was no response. On Saturday morning, when the couple did not emerge from their room even after 10 a.m., their family broke down the door and found the two unconscious. They rushed them to hospital but it was too late.
Police sources said Afroz had not gone to work on Friday. The couple did not leave any note.
Heena’s father, Sayed, told the police there were no problems between the two nor with the family.
Techie hangs himself
An IT professional hanged himself at his home in J.C. Nagar in Kurubarahalli on Saturday afternoon.
Mahesh Kumar (28) hailed from Dharwad and was working in the city since six years.
His body was discovered by his mother, who got neighbours to break down the bedroom door after she saw him hanging.
The Mahalakshmi Layout police found a note he wrote asking his family to repay a Rs.1.5-lakh loan he had taken from a friend though it is not clear if this had anything to do with his suicide.
His shocked relatives, who were planning to get him married soon, said they were not aware of any issues that may have driven him to suicide.
Student run over
A student was killed on the last day of the academic year when a private bus knocked down the two-wheeler on which she was riding pillion and ran over her in Channenahalli in Tavarkere on Saturday afternoon.
Radha (22), a B.A. student in a Vijayanagar college, was going with her uncle Venkatesh from Sunkadakatte to her home in Channenahalli when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed the motorcycle. Radha fell off the motorcycle, came under the rear wheel of the bus and was killed on the spot, the police said.
Radha had gone to her class with friends and was picked up by her uncle on her way back. The police said the accident took place just as Venkatesh was about to park the vehicle near her residence.
The police are looking for the bus driver who is absconding.
Two pedestrians were killed in road accidents in Electronics City traffic police limits since Friday night.
Amjad Pasha (30), a garage mechanic, was killed when he was knocked down by a lorry as he was crossing the road near Singasandra on Friday evening.
The Doddanagamangala resident was employed near Koodlu Gate and was returning home when the lorry knocked him down. The police are looking for the driver.
Saravanan (28) was killed in a hit and run near Chikkabegur Gate. The police quoting eyewitnesses said it was a speeding car.
Stabbed to death
A brawl between two labourers ended in the murder of one in Chikkabommasandra in Yelahanka New Town on Friday night.
The police said Paramesh (30), a resident of Kanakanagar slum and a native of Gulbarga, had played cricket all day with some 10 friends. As they were returning, a fight broke out between Paramesh and his friend Parashuram following which the latter allegedly stabbed him with a knife, killing him on the spot. He is survived by his pregnant wife, the police said.
Parashuram is absconding.
Bludgeoned to death
The body of an unidentified man, aged around 25, was found on the Peripheral Ring Road in Byatarayanapura police limits early on Saturday. The police were alerted around 2.30 a.m. by officials of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), which maintains the road, following which they recovered the body. The victim’s head was smashed with a boulder.
