Three persons lost their lives in incidents related to New Year celebrations in different parts of the city.

A 24-year-old youth died on the spot when he rammed his moped into two other bikes reportedly while performing a stunt at Town Hall junction early on Wednesday. The victim, Saleem, was returning home after visiting Brigade Road with friends. The impact of the accident was such that Saleem was flung into air and fell a few feet away. He sustained severe head injuries, police said.

Three youths — Sandeep, Chetan and Kailash — sustained injuries. While Sandeep and Chetan were rushed to Victoria hospital, Kailash was taken to BGS hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The Ulsoor Gate police have taken up a case.

Mechanic stabbed

A 24-year-old mechanic was stabbed to death by an armed gang in Koramangala while he was returning home after visiting M.G. Road early on Wednesday.

The victim, Faizal, was from Mangammanapalya.

According to the police, Faizal was returning home with friends in an autorickshaw, when another group in a different autorickshaw intercepted them and attacked him. His friends dispersed and fled to save themselves, but in the melee, someone stabbed Faizal.

Passersby noticed the fight and informed the police. The police shifted Faizal’s body to a hospital. Police suspect that the two autos might have got into a race and this could be the cause of the attack. They are on the lookout for Faizal’s friends.

Rowdy attacked by rival

A 23-year-old habitual offender was stabbed to death following a drunken brawl in Peenya on Tuesday night. The deceased, Umesh, was involved in a few criminal cases.

He was out celebrating the New Year when he confronted his rival Jeevan. A heated argument followed. It took an ugly turn with Umesh pulling out a knife and attacking his rival. However, Jeevan overpowered Umesh, snatched the knife and stabbed him repeatedly before fleeing.

Onlookers rushed Umesh to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The Peenya police have taken up a case and are investigating.
