The police have extended the deadline for bars and restaurants and eateries till 1 a.m. for the New Year celebrations in the city.

Bars and other establishments that intend to party till 1 a.m. on January 1, 2013, will have to seek no objection certificate from the Excise Department.

Police Commissioner B.G. Jyotiprakash Mirji has advised revellers not to cause any nuisance or disturbance to their neighbours on account of music that may be played during the celebrations.

Violators will be seriously dealt with, he warned.

Tight security has been arranged in sensitive areas, especially in and around MG Road and Brigade Road, where revellers gather in large numbers to celebrate the event.

Barricades

The traffic police have also stepped up vigil and are planning to set up barricades at traffic junctions to monitor drunken driving cases, Additional Commissioner of Police, T. Sunil Kumar said.
