A group of ministers from the Centre and Karnataka will meet the Railway Minister to impress upon him the need for developing suburban railways as part of a multimodal transport system in Bengaluru, said Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers.
He said this on Sunday before flagging off two trains from Yeswanthpur railway station to Jaipur and Bikaner in Rajasthan.
“Bengaluru needs a multimodal transport format. We need buses, Metro and local trains. Only then will Bengaluru’s transport problem be solved,” he said and added that radial railway tracks from Bengaluru to surrounding cities — Mysuru, Tumakuru, Krishnarajapuram and Yelahanka — should be doubled.
Mr. Reddy said people in cities around Bengaluru find it difficult to commute to the city.
