It could take a fortnight before the extension of nightlife could be implemented in Bangalore, as the Police Department is expecting required amendments to Excise and Police Acts.
“The new deadline will be implemented once the orders are in place. The notification will have to come from the State government in this regard. It may take sometime to notify the amended Acts,” Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar told presspersons here on Monday.
Under the proposed move, bars and restaurants would be open till 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, while hotels and eateries would function till 1 a.m. on all working days.
The extension was announced by Home Minister K J George after a meeting with officials from departments related to the issue. The new timings are being permitted on a trial basis for three months.
‘It’s a challenge’Mr. Auradkar said, “It is challenging for us. But, we will abide by the orders of the new deadline for the city’s nightlife. We will put our best foot forward and we will give the best security to the city that we can.”
On his reaction to the extension of deadline to 1 a.m., Mr. Auradkar said “As long as Bangaloreans are happy, we are happy.”
