New lease of life

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - Bengaluru:

Shobha B., wife of Somashekar who is the first beneficiary of the liver transplant programme at a government hospital in Bengaluru, is overwhelmed with joy.

“I had never imagined my husband would get a new lease of life. Although we were informed of a donation and were asked to come for the surgery on Thursday, our hopes were dashed when we were told the donor organs were unfit. Getting a donor again within a span of a day (on Friday) is something we had not imagined,” she told The Hindu .

Sources in PMSSY said the doctors were all set for the surgery on Thursday after a brain death was reported from M.S. Ramaiah Hospital. However, the organs were rejected as they were damaged.
