New land reform policy sought

Over 20 pro-people organisations, under the banner of Struggle Committee for the Rights of Landless and Shelter-less People, urged the government to introduce a new land reform policy for the landless, small agriculturists and the shelter-less poor. The committee said that the celebration of Devaraj Urs birth centenary has no meaning if the aspirations of Urs to allot land to landless farmers was not met. The committee has planned protests on July 20 at all districts and a ‘Bengaluru Chalo’ on August 20 to bring pressure on the government to fulfil its seven demands for the benefit of the landlessAt a press conference here, senior freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy urged the State government to implement the Karnataka Land Reforms Act effectively.
