Bangalore 08/06/2011 : Birth of Hippopotamus baby at Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bangalore today. It was weighing arround 45kg and both mother and the baby are in good health and very social with each other. Both the mother 'Kavery' 4year old and Father 'Naga' 8 year old are also born in this zoo. With this new arrival Hippo population in the Zoo raised to Eight.

A baby hippopotamus was born at the Bannerghatta Biological Park on Wednesday. According to a press release here, the baby hippopotamus is healthy and weighs around 40 kg.

The mother, Kaveri, is four years old, while the father, Naga, is around eight years old. Both Kaveri and Naga were born at the zoo as well. With the new addition, the hippopotamus population in the zoo has gone up to eight.

Two hippopotamuses, Karthik and Sitha, were brought to Bannerghatta from the Mysore zoo in 1997. Since then, the zoo unit of the Bannerghatta Biological Park has been successfully breeding the animals, the release added.
