Nepal earthquake: 82 stranded from Karnataka reach Delhi

82 people from Karnataka have been safely brought back to New Delhi on Sunday morning through IAF (Indian Air Force) planes.

More than 100 people from Karnataka were stranded after the massive earthquake which hit Nepal on Saturday.

All the people are returning back in batches to the Indian border through road and through IAF planes. The return is being facilitated by Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi.

35 people from Haralahalli in Mandya are on their way to Gorakhpur while a team of 30 people from Belagavi are on their way to the Indian border.

The IAF has started a full-fledged mission to evacuate stranded people. The government has deputed IAS officer Pankaj Kumar Pandey and IPS officer Umesh Kumar, who are to reach Nepal by 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, to facilitate the evacuation process safe passage of the people to the Indian border.

Assistance in relief-work to be decided after officers’ report: Siddaramaiah

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said today that based on the report by IAS officer Pankaj Kumar Pandey and IPS officer Umesh Kumar, necessary steps would be taken for sending assistance for relief work.

The Chief Minister was speaking to presspersons during a brief stop-over before proceeding for his tour of Gadag district. The Chief Minister said as per the information received so far, around 200 people from Karnataka are stranded in Nepal. No information has been received on any casualty, he said.

31 people from Tumakuru safe, on their way back

31 people who had gone on package tour to Nepal, organised by Veerabhadreshwara Package Tours of Kalenahalli in Tumakuru, are safely back on their way to the Nepal-India border, Sunoli.

Organiser of the package tour, Renuka Prasad said that the 31 people hail from Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Dabaspete in Bengaluru Rural.

According to Mr. Prasad, the group of people had reached Manakamana temple around 9.30 a.m. on Saturday and were waiting in queue for their turn to go inside the temple through the rope-way when they felt the tremors. The tremors led to a landslide near the other end of the rope-way. The rope-way pass was immediately shut down.

The experience scared everyone. "By the grace of God they are all safe and had food and water”, Mr. Prasad said.

The group of people left Pokhra on Sunday morning and would reach Sunoli by night. They would reach New Delhi on Monday.
