Traffic in Bangalore was disrupted for some time as a crowd, including dignitaries and their supporters, thronged Sree Kanteerava Stadium and Chord Road on what was supposed to be an important day for Namma Metro on Friday. The foundation stone for phase II of the metro was to be laid at the stadium and reaches 3 and 3a launched at the Rajajinagar metro station.
Traffic around the stadium was slow as several buses carrying people to participate in the programme made their way to the venue. This was in addition to several private vehicles carrying dignitaries, politicians, ministers and guests.
As it was peak hour, the congestion extended to J.C. Road and K.G. Road, proving to be a tough task for the traffic police.
It was a similar problem at Chord Road and Sampige Road where Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Veerappa Moily and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah boarded and alighted from the train to mark the beginning of the Peenya–Sampige Road service.
