Nearly after a month of hot chase, a special team of police have arrested former councillor V. Nagaraj, on the run following a raid at his house on April 14, when ₹ 14.8 crore in demonetised currency was recovered.

Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemanth Nimbalkar said that Nagaraj and his two sons, Gandhi and Shastry, were nabbed from near his hideout in Arcot in Tamil Nadu.

Nagaraj, who gave a tough time to the police, had even tried to to get anticipatory bail through his advocate, which was rejected. Frustrated Nagaraj had released two CDs accusing police officers and others for foisting false cases against him.

A team of police led by ACP Ravi Kumar tracked him down near Arcot and nabbed him after a hot chase after he ventured out from his hideout to make a call.

Earlier, the police arrested four of his associates who were part of the illegal currency exchange racket.
