Overnight, the landmark Ashoka Pillar in Jayanagar has been lit up. Not just the pillar, lights have been put up on the surrounding trees as well. Sources in BBMP claimed that it is illegal to put up boards or lights near landmarks. Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan said he did not know if permission had been granted for putting up the lights. He said that if advertisement boards have been put up in a public space, they would be removed.
