The State government is considering widening the 140 km Mysore–Bangalore stretch into six-lane owing to the high density of traffic on the highway, Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said the traffic volume on the highway soared on holidays, with the density being nearly 70,000 passenger car units a day.

He would discuss with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who holds the Finance portfolio, and take a final decision, the Minister said.

On potholes, he said department officials had been instructed to cover them by calling short tenders. On the excess land given to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd., Mr. Mahadevappa said he would examine the matter and take appropriate action.
