The drama surrounding the post of Registrar (Administration) of Bangalore University finally ended on Friday with B.C. Mylarappa formally demitting office, paving the way for Kemparaju T.D., professor in the Library and Information Science Department of the varsity to be appointed as the in-charge Registrar.
Confirming the late evening developments, acting Vice-Chancellor N. Rangaswamy told The Hindu that he had received a letter from Prof. Mylarappa saying he was demitting office following the High Court order quashing his appointment as Registrar.
“Coinciding with this letter, we also received a Government Order directing the university to make an interim appointment on account of the post being vacant,” Prof. Rangaswamy added.
Prof. Kemparaju will be the in-charge Registrar until the government appoints a full-time one.
The former Registrar, meanwhile, has gone on a month’s leave. “I have taken leave on moral grounds. I will use this time to approach the Supreme Court,” Prof. Mylarappa said.
Asked if this was within the line of procedure, Mr. Rangaswamy said: “He has taken EL (earned leave). We will have to examine the issue.”
Earlier in the day, when the Chancellor, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, was asked along the sidelines of a programme whether there was progress in the appointment of the Registrar, he said: “I don’t want to comment on these insignificant matters. I’m right now busy with the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.”
