Misusing the vulnerability of a woman who was in mourning last month following the accidental death of her 38-year-old businessman-husband, his relatives made away with valuables from her house while she busied herself with the funeral, says a complaint to the Sanjaynagar police.
The grieving wife, Komal Agarwal, realised on January 1 that a bag containing valuables and property documents was missing when she was completing formalities after the death of her husband, Ankur Agarwal.
Ms. Agarwal told the police that she was at the hospital awaiting the post-mortem report when her husband’s cousin Yogesh Agarwal, along with a group comprising Gopal, Narendra, Sourabha, Gourav Agarwal and Ashok arrived to ostensibly console her.
They then asked her for her apartment keys to help in the funeral process. A trusting Ms. Agarwal obliged them with gratitude.
Shocked
After the funeral, when she returned home with her eight-month-old son, Ms. Agarwal found to her shock the bag containing the documents and valuables missing from the cupboard.
She tried to call her husband’s cousins but they had not only switched off their phones but had also disappeared.
She told the police among the missing valuables were a cheque book, gold bracelet, ring studded with precious stones, passports, property documents of a house in R.T. Nagar and her baby’s birth certificate.
His death
Ankur Agarwal fell off the terrace on December 26 night while talking on his cellphone. Police suspect he tried to sit on the parapet wall but lost his balance and plunged to his death as his wife and son slept inside. Passersby rushed him to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
