Tension prevailed for sometime when over 500 people led by moulvis of mosques in and around City Market blocked traffic at the busy Town Hall junction on Tuesday protesting against Janta Dal (S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda’s remarks against Chamarajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan, terming him “Mir Sadiq.” Traffic movement was disrupted for over an hour.

History has that Mir Sadiq 'betrayed' Tipu Sultan.

The protesters demanded that Mr. Deve Gowda withdraw his statement and shouted slogans against him. They blocked the Town Hall junction disrupting traffic movement following which the police had to cane them and chase them to allow free flow of traffic.

The police have detained several persons in this connection.
