A motorcyclist was killed on the spot and the pillion rider sustained injuries when their vehicle collided with an ambulance near Minerva Circle late on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Amjad Pasha (26). According to the police, Amjad, a butcher, was married barely three months ago. The incident occurred when Amjad, a resident of Sudhama Nagar, was returning home with Imran after attending a family function.

While they reached Siddaiah Road and were heading towards Minerva Circle, an ambulance coming from Town Hall towards Minerva Circle against one-way traffic collided with their vehicle around 12.30 a.m. Amjad, who sustained severe head injuries despite wearing a helmet, was rushed to nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Imran, who sustained minor injuries, was discharged after treatment.

Soon after the accident, the City Market traffic police reached the spot and summoned another ambulance to shift the patient to the hospital as the ambulance involved in the mishap was carrying a patient. The police later seized the ambulance and detained the driver.

Tanker rams two-wheeler

In another incident, a motorcycle rider was killed when a tanker rammed his vehicle on Peenya Main Road on Tuesday.

The deceased Suneel Kumar (28), a native of Bihar and employed in a factory in Kadabagere, was returning home from work. Due to the impact of the accident, the helmet Suneel was wearing fell down and he sustained severe head injuries. Passersby rushed him to hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The tanker driver fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind. The Peenya traffic police have registered a case.
