A mother and son were arrested in connection with the murder of Shantamma (54) in Byatarayanapura on Tuesday.

The two are Mahadevamma and her son Lokesh, an HAL employee, both related to the deceased.

Shantamma, a resident of Sanjaynagar, was the mother-in-law of Lokesh’s younger brother Girish. Girish and his wife, Shantamma’s daughter, who were living with Lokesh and Mahadevamma in Ittamadu, decided to move to a separate house in Chamarajpet. Upset by this, Lokesh and Mahadevamma blamed Shantamma for the rift, the police said. Last Tuesday, the two happened to meet Shantamma at a relative’s house in K.P. Agrahara. They accosted her on her way back and Lokesh stabbed her multiple times with a knife and the two fled, the police said. Shantamma died of her injuries.
