Most calls to ChildLine pertain to begging and child labour

Next comes physical and emotional abuse

Majority of the calls received by the ChildLine for intervention were cases pertaining to begging, child labour as well as physical and emotional abuse.

A press release issued by Bengaluru ChildLine 1098 on Monday stated that out of the total 1,387 cases that required intervention, 212 pertained to child labour, 345 to begging and 146 to physical and emotional abuse.

The Railway ChildLine rescued 2,249 children from exploitive situation on railway platforms during one year. This includes 2051 boys and 198 girls.

ChildLine has planned a series of programmes on the occasion of Children’s Day, which includes a ChildLine se Dosti campaign. The campaign comprises awareness programmes at railway stations, street plays, awareness in malls and a candle light vigil. Besides this, they will screen films related to prevention of child sexual abuse. They will also have a quiz on child protection for students pursuing their bachelors and masters in social work.
