Roopa (32), an IT professional, who was murdered in her J.P. Nagar flat on Friday night had more than 40 stab injuries on her body, the police investigations have revealed.

Madhusudhan (36), allegedly killed his wife Roopa and jumped off the 13th floor of their apartment complex ‘Sobha Tulip’.The couple’s six-year-old daughter Surabhi was at maternal grandparents’ home in J.P. Nagar 2nd phase when the incident took place.

The bodies of the couple were handed over to the families at the Kempe Gowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS)on Saturday morning. .

“On Friday evening, the couple had gone to Roopa’s parents’ house as it was her father’s birthday. Roopa had left Surabhi sleeping there before returning to the flat in J.P. Nagar. We heard that Madhusudhan had a bad temper, but it is too difficult to believe,” said a relative, who was there at KIMS, where the post-mortem examination of the bodies was done.

A senior police official said: “The security guard noted down that Madhusudhan entered the apartment in his car at 8 p.m. According to the guard, he was alone in the car. He later even bought vegetables.”

The police said that their investigations revealed that the couple had a heated argument before the crime took place. “There were at least seven stab injuries on Roopa’s face and more than 35 stab injuries on her body. She had even been stabbed in the eye. Madhusudhan also had a stab injury on his back,” said DCP (South) H.S. Revanna.

The police alleged that soon after killing Roopa, Madhusudhan had tried to hang himself from the ceiling but the rope had snapped following which he had tried to immolate himself. When the two attempts failed, he had jumped off the building in a desperate bid to end his life.

Police officials who visited the flat said that it was in a state of disarray with everything topsy-turvy and stained with blood. It appears as if the two had chased each other during the quarrel, they said. Roopa and Madhusudhan had an arranged marriage seven years ago. Quoting relatives, the police said that Madhusudhan was extremely short-tempered and the couple frequently argued over petty issues.

Roopa’s family hailed from Chitradurga while Madhusudhan is a native of Belur.
