Modi’s victory is triumph of technology driven advertising blitz: Ananthamurthy

Well-known writer U.R. Ananthamurthy, who has been one of the critics of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, has described his victory as “a triumph of the advertising blitz using the most modern of technological tools”. He described Mr. Modi as a “mediocre leader”. He “holds the 24/7 news media guilty for creating a wave” and “whitewashing the image of Mr. Modi and making him attractive” to voters.

Describing the BJP as a party with “medieval values”, he is surprised by how it had succeeded in harnessing the most advanced IT tools. The Congress, on the other hand, had failed to use modern tools to even highlight schemes like Anna Bhagya, he added.

“In this scenario, the person who gives me hope is Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). As opposed to the media-savvy, electronic-driven advertising techniques of the BJP, he used his legs to travel through his constituency,” said Mr. Ananthamurthy.

Staying put

When asked about his earlier remark that he would leave the country if Mr. Modi came to power, he said that the statement was made in an emotional moment. “It was utterly petty of some people to twist it out of context,” he told The Hindu .
