The subjects of his caricatures need no introduction: Salvador Dali, Monet and Charlie Chaplin. And the concerns he depicts in his show, Impressions and Expressions, range from to works about significant times in his life as well issues such as global warming, smoking and education.

Currently under way at the India Cartoon Gallery, Parjanya Sau’s art is influenced by cubism, impressionism and surrealism.

He has used different types of media for these works, including ink, pastels, poster colours, colour pencils and watercolours. “Many people think there is a distinction between cartoons and art. A well-drawn cartoon is art. I keep trying to merge modern art and cartoons together since I started drawing caricatures around 2012,” Mr. Sau says.

“At the moment, I have a day job and everything I create is during the weekends. I have always wondered when my passion would win.”

The exhibition is on till April 20 (except Sundays) and is open to public between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the gallery premises, 1, Midford House, off M.G. Road, Trinity Circle. Call +919916272254 or mail parjanyasau@yahoo.co.in
