City-based NGO Mobility India is organising a three-day South Asian conference from December 10 on best practices in rehabilitation therapy. It will be held at its premises in J.P. Nagar in the city.

The conference will focus on laws and issues related to people with disabilities, their access to welfare and entitlements, rehabilitation therapy service provision, social sensitisation and concerns of these people, according to Mobility India director Albina Shankar.

The conference aims to bring together doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and assistants, prosthetists and orthotists, community-based rehabilitation experts and policy makers from SAARC countries India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, she said on Friday.

The organisation recently received a national award and a purse from the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for its work in creating a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities. President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award instituted by the Department of Disability Affairs, she said.
