Even as protests erupted across the city on Tuesday, a mob of around 500 irate protestors attacked and ransacked the Hebbagodi police station. Pandemonium reigned supreme as the mob attacked the policemen in the station, damaged the vehicles parked outside and even set fire to it.

Sources said that around 150 LPG cylinders that were seized by the police were also at the station. Fortunately, the fire didn’t reach the spot where the cylinders were kept and a possible disaster was averted.

Unable to control the situation, the police were forced to fire tear gas shells. The police also fired several rounds in the air. The police claim that they fired rubber bullets. However, two persons – a 19-year-old young woman and 44-year-old man – sustained bullet injuries and have been admitted to Sparsh Hospital at Electronic City.

While 19-year-old Preethi, who was waiting to be picked up by her brother, was injured on her right leg, 44-year-old Manjunathappa, who works in a courier company, sustained bullet injury on his chest. The condition of Manjunathappa is said to be serious.

Nalinakshi, a constable attached to Hebbagodi police station, sustained a head injury when the mob attacked the policemen. Another person – Kiran – was injured when the mob rushed towards the police station. After seeing the mob move towards him, he fell off his motorcycle and sustained injuries. Both have been admitted to Sparsh Hospital.
