As many as five cars and a motorcycle that were parked in Venkataranga Puram 2 cross in Vyalikaval police limits were damaged by miscreants in the wee hours of Saturday.

Residents of the area alerted the police after seeing the smashed windshields, windows and mirrors and saw dents over the motorbike. Police said that the attack had gone unnoticed as residents were asleep at the time. They suspect that the assailants were inebriated and may have been residents of a nearby slum.

The damages indicate that the miscreants may have used rods and stones to smash the glass. Residents also told the police that some rods had been kept near the houses for road repair work.

The police said that there were no CC TV cameras in the vicinity thereby making it difficult to identify the miscreants. Surprisingly, even the car alarms had not gone off despite the extent of damage done to it. A few police personnel who were patrolling nearby saw the damaged vehicles around 2.30 am indicating that the incident took place in the wee hours of the morning.

The Vyalikaval police have registered a case and are investigating further.

A 45-year-old man was killed when he was run over by a car on National Highway-7 near Hosur Gate in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased Doddanna was sitting along with another man, identified as Srinivas, at the back of a tractor being driven by Venkataramanappa. The tractor was turning left near the Hosur Gate beside Meenugunte when the speeding car rammed into the tractor from behind around 5.20 a.m. The crash made Doddanna fall off the tractor and onto the road where he was run over by the car. He sustained serious injuries and succumbed immediately while Srinivas and the tractor driver both sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The Chikkajala police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the tractor driver and have identified the car driver as Obaidullah. Further investigation is on.
