Social Welfare Minister A. Narayanaswamy announced that the Welfare Department would provide financial aid for the recovery of the 18-year-old student nurse who fell from the second floor of the Backward Classes and Minority (BCM) Hostel in Saraipalya after she was allegedly assaulted by her roommates here on Sunday evening.

The girl, Ramya, a student of a nursing college at Ullal, had an argument with her roommates after she was accused of stealing money.

The argument turned ugly when she was allegedly manhandled by the others following which she lost her balance and fell from the second floor.

She was rushed to Baptist Hospital with back and leg fractures.

A complaint was filed with the Hennur police who have registered a case of assault against Tejaswini, Ashwini, Shwetha and Kanthamma. The four were detained for questioning and were let off.

Student’s suicide

A final year commerce student hanged himself to death at his residence in Rajajinagar T Block here on Sunday.

Subramanyanagar police identified him as Madhusudhan (22), the son of a head constable with the City Armed Police (CAR).

They said that the body was found by his mother and younger brother when they returned after an errand. The police suspected that failure in examination or a relationship issue could be the reason.
