The BMRCL Employees’ Union announced on Monday that it would go ahead with the deferred indefinite strike as talks with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd had failed to resolve their grievances. Employees union representatives and BMRCL management held talks between March 26 and April 20, as per an order issued by the Karnataka High Court. However, union members said the talks failed to yield results. They said initially BMRCL refused to disclose their decision on the union’s demands saying it would report to the high court, even though there was no direction to do so.

“On April 20, representatives of the management insisted that the union should call off the deferred strike and only thereafter a structured mechanism would be constituted to enable periodic discussions on all issues of the employees,” read a press release issued by the employees’ union.

“The conduct of the management and its representatives is nothing short of cheating and breach of trust. It is unbecoming of a government organization,” said union employees. They took the call to revive the deferred strike at a general body meeting of the union held on Sunday. Suryanarayana Murthy, vice-president of the union said, “A decision on the date of the strike will be taken after studying the legal issues.”

The union has also decided to approach the high court seeking action against the BMRCL management.
