Metro ORR link to be sent to cabinet

June 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:56 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The Metro link to Outer Ring Road might not have been included in Phase II but it has definitely not been ruled out as a possible option as the topic came up for discussion at the High-Powered Committee meeting for Namma Metro on Thursday.

The vital link, which would help thousands of employees working along the Outer Ring Road, was not included in Phase II, but after requests for a link, BMRCL started looking for different means to finance this line that was then planned for development side by side with phase II.

Unclear outcome

According to sources, it was decided that the proposal to link the Outer Ring Road with a metro line would be submitted for cabinet approval with new methods of financing proposed. However, with some previous proposals by the BMRCL to raise funds being stonewalled, it is unclear if this plan will succeed.

If approved by the Cabinet, the Outer Ring Road link will come up between K.R. Puram and Silk Board junction, both major chokepoints for traffic.

Behind the idea

The idea was proposed to City Development Minister K.J. George ahead of the Invest Karnataka meet by a section of civic evangelists and industrialists.
