Meeting on malls, actor’s home inconclusive

August 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:42 am IST - BENGALURU:

The Mayor, officials of the BBMP and Revenue Department met on Monday to discuss alleged encroachments on storm water drains (SWDs) by two malls, Kannada film actor Darshan’s house and a private hospital owned by a former minister.

But the meeting ended without answering the question of whether these might be demolished.

Request for time

“We have to consider the village map, the BDA map and the residents’ layout maps. The survey officials requested more time to come to a conclusion as to the presence and extent of any alleged encroachment,” said Veerabhadrappa B., Joint Commissioner, Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

Poor being targeted

He added that the meeting went on for hours given repeated and consistent complaints that only the poor are being targeted. “It was explicitly discussed in the meeting that there would be no tolerance for any officer being lax because the properties belong to big builders.”

He added that there would be a conclusive report by Wednesday. On Thursday, survey officials as well as BBMP staff would go and physically mark the encroachments, if any. They could begin demolitions the same day.
