Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes, on Friday, said the toll hike for motor vehicles on National Highway 7, leading to Kempegowda International Airport here was steep and the “present toll policy has many weaknesses and needs a drastic overhaul”.

Mr. Fernandes said another meeting would be held with officials of the State government, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Pvt. Ltd. on May 12 to resolve the issue.

Agreement fulfilled?

Speaking to presspersons after a review meeting here with all stakeholders, Mr. Fernandes said he had asked the State government and the NHAI authorities to examine whether the concessionaire company has fulfilled all the conditions of the toll agreement, and submit a report within two days.

The meeting was attended by, apart from him, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, officials of NHAI and the Navayuga Devanahalli Tollway Pvt. Ltd. The government will adopt a tough stance against the private company, if it had failed to fulfil all the conditions, he said.
