Health Commissioner Subodh Yadav on Wednesday placed Murali Krishna, administrative medical officer of General Hospital, Anekal, under suspension with a pending departmental inquiry on the charge of dereliction of duty.

This follows the recent incident in which a father had to ride pillion on a bike with the body of his three-year-old son after the hospital refused to provide him a hearse. MLC V.S. Ugrappa, who is also chairman of expert committee on prevention of sexual violence against women and children, had visited the hospital on Monday and recommended the doctor’s suspension.

The boy, Raheem, was knocked down by an unidentified motorist near Karpur Gate in Anekal on Sunday evening. When his father took him to the hospital, the doctor had checked the boy’s pulse and informed the father that he was dead. The man was allegedly denied a hearse to transport the body home.

According to the suspension order, disciplinary action has been initiated based on the report of the District Health and Family Welfare Officer.
