The 26th International Conference on Global Advancement of Mathematics (GAM) 2013 organised by Jangjeon Mathematical Society, South Korea, in association with Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, Bangalore, began here on Thursday.

The four-day conference being held on the campus of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies in Soladevanahalli, will discuss various aspects of development and advancement of mathematical concepts both in research and applications.

More than 100 mathematicians, including delegates from Ukraine, South Korea, Turkey, Japan, China, Canada and India, will present papers. The conference will also chair topics related to Algebra, Applied Mathematics, Differential Equations and many more.

P.K Banerjee, principal investigator, DSCE Research Project, Indian Mathematical Science, Kolkata, inaugurated the conference.

Gurunath Rao Vaidya, chairperson of GAM 2013 and principal of Acharya Institute of Graduate Studies, said the event would provide a platform for delegates from different countries to interact with each other, share the advancement of maths in their own countries and facilitate development of further mathematical concepts.

“It is a great opportunity to organise a conference on maths and we fought with Russian university to get a chance to chair the conference,” Prof. Vaidya added.

S.H. Rim, editor, Global Advancement of Mathematics, South Korea, said that in recent days there had been a huge shortage of math teachers and hoped such events create more interest in mathematics and create more academicians in the subject.

B M Reddy, president, JMJ Education Trust, and Chandrashekar Adiga from Mysore University were among those present.
