The DNA analysis of the train tragedy victims, which is being done at the government-run Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Madiwala in the city, is likely to be completed by Sunday. However, matching the DNA with that of the relatives would take at least two days, and the bodies can be only handed over then.

P.K. Devdas, head of the Forensic Science Department in Victoria Hospital, said each analysis would take at least six to eight hours. “We will collect the blood samples in Victoria Hospital and send it to the Forensic Science Laboratory where they will be analysed. The analysis is likely to be ready only by Sunday,” he said.

The entire process

“The entire process is likely to take at least two days and the bodies will be handed over to the families only after that”.

Sources said experts had to exercise maximum caution in matching the DNA profiles.
