Several members of the armed forces and their families stationed at the Headquarters Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area started a massive tree plantation drive across the city, beginning with the Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw Parade Grounds, on Wednesday.

Over the next 15 days, over 30,000 trees of ornamental and fruit bearing variety will be planted by jawans, officers and family members across various military units in the city. The saplings for the plantation drive were given by the Deputy Conservator of Forest (Urban Forestry), Vanavikas, Bengaluru. It is said the DCF gave technical advice in consonance with urban forestry plans.

“Apart from planting of the saplings, maintenance and care of the saplings is important to ensure that trees survive. The saplings are being planted before the onset of monsoons to ensure greater survivability,” a statement by the Army said.
