Alert staff of the Central Prison of Parappana Agrahara foiled an attempt to smuggle ganja into the highly secured prison using a carom board to conceal the contraband.

A visitor who sneaked in with the Carrom Board managed to escape in a hurry without any trouble. Suspecting his behaviour a senior officer conducted a thorough check on all the items that came into the prison on Wednesday and found a Carrom board that had contraband (ganja) which was used as a shield of layer to protect the board.

Upon investigation, the prison guards later found out that the visitor had come at the behest of a Tumakuru convict to meet him who was identified as Arun Mohan. Arun Mohan has been in Bengaluru Central Jail for over the last three years convicted for robbery cases in Tumakuru, .

“Usually we allow visitors or family members of the convict to donate games like carom boards for recreational activities and games inside the prison, and this carom board also found its way inside the prison like that,” he said.

“We have recovered 1.5 kg of ganja from a carom board, and the provisions for violating jail manual are being explored. The convict, Arun Mohan, who is responsible would not be recommended for parole, no interviews from visitors or family members, and his remission of sentence will be disqualified and he would be sent for solitary confinement,” Additional Director General of Prisons , Kamal Pant said.

The prison department has also filing a complaint with the jurisdictional police to trace the person who came to deliver, he said.
