Just a week ahead of the Assembly elections in the State, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, who is also the District Election Officer, Bengaluru Urban, has been transferred with immediate effect.
According to a release from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), Mr. Prasad will be immediately replaced by M. Maheshwar Rao, Agriculture Secretary.
Recently, polling officials in Dasarahalli, Yelahanka, Shanthinagar, and K.R. Puram constituencies raised complaints that there were fake names being entered into the system without their knowledge. It was estimated that about 7,000 fake names had been added to the voters’ list in different constituencies in Bengaluru Urban district.
The Election Commission, however, has not commented on the transfer.
Mr. Prasad, a 1994 batch IAS officer, served as BBMP Commissioner for over two years from April 2016.
